Interesting Breeds Of Terriers - Some Fascinating Facts by Abhishek Agarwal
Interesting Breeds Of Terriers - Some Fascinating Facts
by Abhishek Agarwal
A terrier is actually a lively child in the garb of a dog. Putting it this simply, however, will do no justice to the temperament of these dogs.
Terriers are natives of the British Isles, a place where they received their first training to hunt animals such as foxes, otters, rats, and underground animals. The word "terrier" is derived from "terra," a word that means "earth."
On the whole, terriers can be identified through certain common features. Yet they are classified into various breeds on the basis of small differences.
Here are the names of a few sub-breeds of terriers:
Show terriers are tiny dogs bred and trained for the ring.
Bull terriers are a cross between terriers and bull dogs. In the latter half of the nineteenth century, dog breeders separated several varieties of bull dogs from terriers for easier classification.
Hunting terriers were originally trained to hunt various types of prey.
Toy terriers are very small terriers, commonly used as companion dogs.
Here are a few dog profiles that will help you understand a few varieties of terriers:
Airedale Terrier
Airedale terriers are the largest of all terriers. They stand at an average height of 23 inches from their shoulders. The beauty and elegance of these dogs make them ideal participants for dog obedience trials and dog shows.
The Airedale is a cross between Ottehound and Black and Tan Terrier; therefore, it has inherited the skills of these terriers in tracking and swimming.
Australian Terrier
The Australian terrier has been cross bred more than any other breed of dog. It is expected to live from 12-14 years and is about 10-11 inches tall.
It has an interesting history. It is believed that a crossbreed of an ancestor of the Dandie Dinmont and a rough coated terrier once found its way into England. Its offspring was then transported to Australia. Since Australia had a scarcity of dogs at that time, this breed was cross bred with a variety of dogs, resulting in an amazing, small terrier-like dog that has superb talents for guarding and ratting.
Border Terrier
The Border Terrier is a working dog. Contrary to its medium-built appearance, the dog works really hard. They are smart and alert, with a special ability to squeeze into small gaps while they hunt.
Due to their affectionate nature and ability to get trained fast, Border terriers make great pets for the entire family.
Bull Terrier
The Bull Terrier was originally bred and trained to take part in dog fights and to bait bulls. It is known for its extraordinary courage and capacity to bear great pain. During the nineteenth century, the English banned the barbaric dog fights, and dog breeders began breeding milder varieties of Bull Terriers.
The current Bull Terrier is a combination of its fighting ancestor cross-bred with the Dalmatian and the English Terrier. The result is a white dog that keeps well away from dog fights, a fact that earned it a nickname, "White Cavalier."
These are just to mention a few. There are several more varieties of terriers. These dogs, initially, just catch your attention. Later, they create in you enough curiosity to learn more about them. You never know if you might meet your best friend and companion among these breeds of terriers.

Airedale Terrier Pet Dogs - 5 Effective Tips To Keep Your Dog Well-Behaved! by Abhishek Agarwal
Airedale Terrier Pet Dogs - 5 Effective Tips To Keep Your Dog Well-Behaved!
by Abhishek Agarwal
First, congratulations on your new companion! Before it becomes your pet, you have to do certain things which are necessary for it to be your pet, and not a pest. That lies in your hands.
1. Start training the pup as early as you can. The old saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks really applies with an Airedale terrier. In fact it applies to all homosapiens, including ourselves. And so it is with you new pet. The younger it is the faster it will learn. You have to have patience. Remember your first child? This too is your child now. So just as you conditioned your baby's reactions and actions on your modulation of voice, so too with this four legged baby of yours.
2. Start taking it out of the house early, and again train.. it will strain.. so many new things, so many funny sounds, so many people. It has to get used to it. It has to get used to your command, when outside, it must respond to your command, overcoming all the other sounds and odors from the street. Take it for a walk, let its sense of odor lead it, but by gentle pulling and calm, but firm words, train it to stay away from certain things. Allow some freedom, so that you can instruct it which words it should listen to and how it should respond.
This will help your pet to learn how to behave inside the house and outside, simultaneously. Teach it to whine to go outside - not all the time, but when...
3. In all the above things, your timing the training is the key. Once you see it do something which should not be done inside the house, take it outside. It will take time, but the faster you start toilet training the better off you will be. Teach tricks repeatedly, varying your routine, so that it does not get bored - nor you. It can be fun also.
4. The Airedale terrier is your pet; you bought it for money because you found it cute. In the early days, don't take out your temper on it. Even if you are in a foul mood. Remember, dogs have an inherent sense of smell, that can distinguish fear from love, anger, moodiness, and it may try to change your mood. It may itself be moody. Stick with it. Later on, when it is trained, you can ask it to go away. It will. Don't be rough. It just doesn't know. How can it?
5. Don't use implements on it to train it. It does not make sense. It will shy away from you when you want to hold it or take a walk. If you show up with an implement, it will whimper and backtrack. Use language, use high tone or soft tone, or even a firm tone. Think of it as your own baby. In a way it is. By all means, coax and cajole. If it does not listen even then, yes punish it, but gently. Show indifference to its whines and cajoling. When putting its feed in its bowl, ignore it. Don't ask it to eat. Two or three such instances would arouse a signal in its head that Mom's angry.. better I do what she wants.
If you have to, and I don't see how you can do it, chain it and ignore it and walk away out of the house, when it doesn't heed you. Learn to be remorseless during its training, not merciless. There's a big difference there.
At the cost of repetition, and it does bear repetition, treat your Aierdale terrier just as you would your own child. This one has four legs, and you are the only mom or dad it now knows. Treat it as your own child, and you would have a splendid companion for the rest of its day and create a great feeling in your heart.
It's a wonderful companion to take out for your walk; take it for walk when you are angry or frustrated at your life, and watch how it listens to various sounds, and sniffs at different things, and how it hangs out its tongue at people or barks at them.. that should take your blues away.

Is an Airedale Terrier a Good Fit For Your Family? by Jerry Baubut
Is an Airedale Terrier a Good Fit For Your Family?
by Jerry Baubut
Are Airedale Terriers a good choice for a family dog? It really depends on your family...
Airedale Terriers may not be a good choice for families with small children due to their high energy levels. They can play a bit rough. On the other hand, they make a good jogging partner because of their athletic physique. Airedale Terriers are not the oldest of the Terrier breeds. The largest and finest is what many people who know the breed would call them.
Airedale Terriers have busy eyebrows as well as beards and mustaches that make them unique in their appearance. Male dogs average in weight around 50-60 pounds (18-23 kg) and in height around 23-24 inches (58-61-cm) tall. They are very affectionate and loyal towards their family and are good with children. They tend to tolerate other household pets and strangers, although they are known to be dominate towards other dogs. They are muscular, sturdy, well-balanced and very active dogs that make wonderful family pets and show dogs.
Airedale Terriers have large, lean and well-proportioned frames covered in bristly, wiry coats. Their long, flat heads are somewhat narrow with small, dark eyes and V-shaped ears that fold forward. Airedale Terriers are considered by some people to be allergy free. The Airedale's and Welsh Terrier's double coat is naturally non shedding.
Airedale terriers are very intelligent and extremely confident. Most breeders will usually state that due to their confidence and loyalty, they do need to be obedient and trained well in order to be around others besides their owners. They are very strong dogs and are very good swimmers.
If your family seems like a good fit for this interesting dog, I suggest going for it!

Is An Airedale Terrier Puppy The Right Choice For Me And My Family? by Mitch Endick
Is An Airedale Terrier Puppy The Right Choice For Me And My Family?
by Mitch Endick
The Airedale Terrier is a people oriented dog with patience for children. He is affectionate and will protect his adopted family. Early socialization with children is important. They are large, strong dogs and they may play a bit rough. They have been used as police dogs and are alert and make excellent watchdogs. For safety reasons, never leave very young children alone with any dog.
*Temperament. His temperament is loyal and he will protect his adopted family. Many believe he has a sense of humor. Training can be a little difficult as he is more inclined to be a clown.
*Approximate Adult Size. Males weigh about 65 pounds and are about 23 inches tall at the withers (tallest point of the shoulders. Females weigh 55 to 60 pounds and are about 22 inches to the withers.
*Ideal Environment. The Airedale is a large size dog that is energetic and needs plenty of exercise. A properly fenced back yard would help in his exercise needs. He is not recommended for an apartment unless he has frequent, brisk walks. The Airedale needs a lot of exercise and attention or he will get bored and become destructive. If you have a cat, another dog or other small pets, they can be aggressive toward them as they were bred to hunt animals. Having a animal or pet run from this dog will get his hunting juices going. Early socialization will help considerably but it is hard to defeat his hunting heritage.
*How Much Time And Care. The Airedale needs plenty of exercise and fresh air. They are happy to take brisk walks, swim, play fetch the ball and even jog or run along while you bike ride. This is a breed needing a lot of attention and if you want an easy dog to deal with you might want to keep shopping.
*Special Health Considerations. Airedales are very healthy dogs and the only significant special problems are hip dysplasia, as is the case with large breeds, low thyroid function and von Willebrands disease. Dry itchy skin is another common ailment. Most people feed a little extra oil in the diet and this seems to help greatly. A side problem is that these dogs can withstand the pain of injuries stoically and you may not always know when your dog is hurting.
*Grooming. The Airedale is not a prolific shedder but his wiry coat needs regular care including clipping and brushing. His coat is a double coat, a soft undercoating with wiry dense hair on the outer. Prepare to possibly shoulder the expense of hiring a professional groomer service. The most popular groomed look for Airedales is the King of Terriers look.
*Life Span. They can live between 10 and 12 years.
*Airedale History. He originates from England and is considered a modern breed. They are a cross between Otterhounds and smaller terriers. World War I saw them serve both the German and British. They delivered messages and found wounded soldiers on the battlefield. Several president conspicuously owned Airedales including president Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge the Theodore Roosevelt.
*Training. Airedales are thinkers so be creative about your training activities. They can be a little difficult to train but they are highly intelligent. Harsh training methods will get you no where as they can out last you. These are tough, thinking dogs. They can learn to do about any job.
SPECIAL GOOD POINTS
Protective of his adopted family.
Great watch dog.
Good with older kids.
Very little shedding.
SPECIAL BAD POINTS
They are digging dogs, as are many terriers.
Will fight other dogs so be careful with retractable leashes.
Needs a lot of exercise.
Will bark when very bored.
Has a mind of his own.
They may be very aggressive to other animals, cats, etc.

Hypoallergenic Dogs - The Perfect Match For Allergy Sufferers? by Susan Koranki
Hypoallergenic Dogs - The Perfect Match For Allergy Sufferers?
by Susan Koranki
With pproximately 10% of Americans suffering from allergies, and at least one dog living in almost 50% of US homes, if you do the math you'll see that there's a lot of demand for dogs who are less likely to produce an allergic reaction in the humans it shares it's life with!
What exactly are 'hypoallergenic dogs'?
Well, first of all they're NOT allergy free dogs! There is no such thing. But they are dogs from breeds that have been proven to produce a less severe allergic response in humans. In some cases, and in some people, they may not cause any allergic reaction at all. Whether or not someone has an allergic reaction to a particular dog breed is often very specific to that individual, and even to a particular dog within a breed.
Allergy to dog hair or dog dander?
Contrary to popular belief, it's not necessarily dog hair that causes you to sneeze and your eyes to water. In fact, dog dander (tiny flakes of dead skin) and dog saliva, are much more likely to cause your symptoms. Of course, dog hair does play a role, as the more hair a dog sheds, the more dander he sheds too. You may not see the dander, but you will see the hair.
Hypoallergenic Breeds
There is a pretty good-sized list of dog breeds generally considered to be hypoallergenic. These breeds are more likely to produce limited or reduced allergic reactions in people with dog allergies.
But it's important to remember that each dog breed, (and each individual dog within that breed), and human allergy sufferer, is a unique combination. Just because you allergic cousin has no problems with her little Maltese, it doesn't necessarily mean that a Maltese is right for you.
Before deciding on a puppy or dog from a particular breed, it's advisable to try a 'trial run' if at all possible. Visit the breeder that you're buying from and spend some time around the dogs before you commit. If you can't go to the breeder, at the very least try and find some exposure to the breed you're interested in (maybe through friends or relatives), so that you can guage your response. If you're getting a dog from an animal shelter or rescue, ask if you can take him home for a few days to see how you react. Many shelters allow this.
Some of the more popular hypoallergenic dog breeds include:
Airedale Terrier
Basenji
Bedlington Terrier
Bouvier des Flandres
Cairn Terrier
Chihuahua
Chinese Crested (Powder Puff and Hairless varieties)
Cockapoo
Coton De Tulear
Italian Greyhound
Labradoodle
Maltese
Malti-Poo
Old English Sheepdog
Poodle (and most Poodle mixes such as Labradoodle, Malti-Poo etc.)
Schnauzer (all sizes)
Yorkshire Terrier
Breeds Better Avoided!
Although, this is not written in stone, there are some dog breeds that have been shown more likely to produce an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals.
Heavy shedders such as Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers are among these 'trigger breeds', some of the others include :
Afghan Hound
Basset Hound
Dachshund
Doberman Pinscher
German Shepherd
Springer Spaniel
It would be a perfect world if every dog-lover could have the dog of his/her dreams! Although this may not be practical, or possible for all allergy sufferers, if you use common sense and are willing to investigate, explore and compromise, there is often an answer to your dilemma among the hypoallergenic dogs of this world.

Airedale Terrier - The King of the Terriers by Evan Richer
Airedale Terrier - The King of the Terriers
by Evan Richer
The Airedale Terrier is a medium 45 to 65 pound dog that usually reaches between 22" and 24". Known as the King of the Terriers, they are largest of the Terrier breeds recognized by the AKC. It is a compact little powerhouse that is all terrier when it comes to chasing little animals or appeasing its curiosity.
Airedale Terriers are typically tan on the ears, head, chest, undersides, legs, and sometimes on the shoulders. They are black or grizzle on the sides and upper parts of the body. Sometimes they have a red mixture on the black or white markings on the chest. Certain strains of the breed also have a small white patch on the chest. Their wiry, dense outer coat requires regular grooming.
If you are looking for a dog with plenty of stamina and energy, look no further. The Airedale Terrier is full of energy and needs daily exercise and play. Generally speaking, they do best with older well behaved children and are not ideal for homes with smaller pets as terriers have the tendency to chase small animals and vermin. They can do well with other dogs, especially if they are socialized from puppyhood. They are loyal and protective if their family. They love to learn and can be trained easily provided training is fun and not monotonous.
The breed dates itself back to 18th century England. The breed is a cross between an Otterhound and a Waterside Terrier. They were bred for hunting small game and were later used in big game hunting, police work and as an army dog in WWII. The Airedale Terrier is now considered more of a family pet than working dog. However, they do love to work and have tasks to do and still make good hunting and tracking dogs
For a family that enjoys outdoors and exercise, the Airedale Terrier is an excellent choice. Although they can work with other pets and dogs, a one pet household seems more ideal for their needs unless they grow up with other family pets. The Airedale Terrier is a great pet for the family on the go.

Introducing the Waterproof Belgian Malinois by Alex De La Cruz
Introducing the Waterproof Belgian Malinois
by Alex De La Cruz
The Belgian Malinois isn't exactly waterproof, it's more like water-resistant because water and other fluids have the tendency to slide off its fur - pretty cool if you ask me. This isn't the only dog breed that has this "unique" attribute, there are some other breeds out there that can do the same mind-blowing thing. Nothing special really, just one of its advantages if you live in a place with constant rain showers. Aside from that, it's a perceived by many to be beautiful - it has nice body structure weighing anywhere from 40 to 80 pounds and reaching a height of 22 to 26 inches.
They are "sexy", boasting an athletic and well-muscled build plus a "handsome" face, the envy of dog and man alike. The coat comes in colors ranging from mahogany to fawn and red - well complimented by its prick ears of medium length. But enough of its beauty; there are other breeds out there that can be just as beautiful and sexy. Let's talk about what the Belgian Malinois can do to make it stand out. Farmers found great use for this pooch because of its herding abilities and natural protective instinct. They may not be as big as the other giant sheepdogs tackling wolves and bears, but they still can hold up their own.
The police also used this breed as an attack dog and guard dog. Criminals on the run could be tracked down with its excellent sense of smell, which was also used for search and rescue missions. It was given a scent to track, and police would rest assure that the missing person they were out to look for would be found in no time at all. This pet is inclined towards work - they love it just as much as they need it. Raising a Belgian Malinois is very much possible, and could potentially make an outstanding family pet for the owners that KNOW how to handle this type of dog.
They can be very affectionate and protective over the family that owns it - but it does come with the "alpha dog syndrome" embedded in its genes. This means that it does have the tendency to push people around and get rough with the other pets in town. Responsible pet ownership for this dog would be needed - it'll need somebody that know the right dog training methods and with strong "pleasing" personality. To own a Belgian Malinois, you're going to have to establish your authority over it as soon as possible. You want to seem as if you were its father or mother, so that it may respect and love you.
A dog that's really tough on the outside has a soft spot for its human companions - they need a lot of care and attention to be rendered by its masters. Having it locked up and alone will be bad for it and lead to the rise of other canine behavioral problems. Socialization plays an important part in it's overall development and should never be neglected. Have it mingle with other animals and humans as soon as it can "see". Meals should be given 3 times daily; dog food given to it should contain all the nutrients that'll need to get it through the day.
Give it plenty of water to keep it hydrated. Taking it out on walks and jogs would be good for its exercise needs - keeping the Belgian Malinois happy and satisfied will ensure a healthy relationship between the both of you.

My Dog is Too Fat? Are Veterinarians Correct About Your Dog's Weight? By Angel Soriano
My Dog is Too Fat? Are Veterinarians Correct About Your Dog's Weight?
By Angel Soriano
Q: We were told by our vet that our dog is too fat, and that he needs to be on a diet. I was offended at first, since we've never looked at our dog as being fat. He's a Miniature Schnauzer and weights only 22 pounds. The vet said to reduce his food quantity by 20% and see how much he loses in a month. This seems a bit extreme, and cruel, is this correct? Kathy, Salt Lake City.
A: Not extreme enough Kathy. Although I'm not equipped to argue veterinary medicine with your veterinarian, I can safely say that if your vet feels that your buddy is over weight, then, he probably is. At 22 pounds, he is not a miniature anything - sorry! Your vet sees many dogs in his practice, and your Schnauzer must have peaked his "fat scale" index. I can safely say that if your Schnauzer is of typical height (12-14"), he should be weighing about 15 lbs; unless he is exceptionally tall, then, he is about 50% overweight. This makes him extremely overweight (which might offend you again).
To your question of; is it too extreme to cut his food intake by 20%? Your veterinarian most likely did the math, he knows the ideal weight for "Tiny", and he obviously knows that he needs to loose about 7 lbs. Given his present obese condition, a 20% reduction in food intake is not a bad plan. I would have personally gone at it differently, which can be debated as even more extreme. If my dog weighs 22 lbs, and he should ideally weigh 15, I would reduce his food intake to the level of a 15 lb dog. The back of the dog-food bag typically gives you suggestions based on the dog's weight and activity level. Make sure you always use the dog's final intended weight for your calculations, and not his present weight.
Your veterinarian cares about the long-term health of your buddy (that's not just his patient, it's also his client); so, let's get him on a solid diet, and make him healthy again. Peace. DogMan.

Article Mastering Dog Training - Why Should I Train My Dog?
by Wendell S M
Mastering dog training is an important aspect of dog ownership; not only for the safety of your dog, but also for the safety of others. No matter how sweet and innocent your dog may be, you never know when something could trigger an aggressive reaction. I know that nobody wants to believe that their dog would ever hurt a person or another animal. But you just never know how your dog will react if he is scared, intimidated or cornered. Mastering dog training should be a priority for all dog owners.
Mastering dog training should focus first on the most important commands. The commands "Come", "Sit" and "Stay" are probably the ones you'll utilize most frequently. The "Come" command has proven to be a life saver for many dogs. If your dog were to get loose or run away, god forbid into traffic, you'll want to be sure that your dog will return to you immediately. "Sit" and "Stay" are polite commands, but still serve an important function. After you have taught the essential commands, you can then move on to some others that will help you maintain better control of your dog.
While mastering dog training, you'll also come across some great advice on the importance of exercising your dog. Daily walks dissolve pent up energy, and make it easier for your dog to focus on the task at hand. Letting your dog out in your backyard does not constitute exercise. Walking gives your dog the chance to explore his surroundings. After the daily exercise program is a great time to being mastering dog training. Your dog will give you his attention more easily and make your training less stressful.
Mastering dog training also provides the structure that dogs enjoy. Dogs are much more comfortable having boundaries. These boundaries give your dog a sense of security and they will enjoy learning new things.
Training is so important for the safety and happiness of your dog. Start early and be consistent, and find a program that you enjoy. Proper training will prevent you from having problems in the future.

Poodles and Obedience Training
By Lisa A Collins
The Poodle is one of the most lovable dog breeds ever. They are cute to look at, bubbly in their nature and always eager to please their owners. This is one trait that makes Poodle obedience training a relatively easy exercise for most dog owners. The Poodle is a great companion dog but it tends to have socializing problems at times. Therefore, it is often advisable to have your Poodle enrolled in a training class instead of having the trainer come home for training. In this way, your dog will learn as a by-product to socialize as well both with animals and people.
Among the most common commands your Poodle should learn will be sit, come, down, stay, heel and the like. You can teach these basic obedience commands at home as well because the Poodle is an easily trainable dog. However, having a trainer do it will be faster and less cumbersome for you.
Teaching the command sit is the first and maybe the most basic of all the commands that any dog should learn under obedience training. The Poodle obedience training lists this command as the easiest to teach. Have a treat in your hand and the Poodle on its leash at least two feet in front of you. Show the dog that you have a treat in your hand and then lift your hand above its head and make a circle towards its tail.
As the dog will sit down following the trail of your hand, hand over the treat to the dog and praise it profusely. Keep doing this in batches of three to four continuous times with a break of two minutes or so in between when you can pet and praise your Poodle on how well it is doing. Remember, that all Poodles are extremely anxious to please and therefore showing and expressing your happiness in the achievement of your Poodle will be the greatest catalyst in its training.
Teaching the command heel to you Poodle may be the most difficult of all. This is because this dog is very restless and bubbly and too excited to find out what all the world is offering it to suppress its curiosity. In fact, this is the exact reason why Poodle obedience training should include this particular command.
This is a cumbersome process but easy to do and if done right you will have the dog trained in about a week's time. Put your Poodle on a leash and walk in front of it with the treat in your hand on the same side the dog is. As soon as it bounces in front of you, pull the leash with a slight tug and say loudly heel. Repeat this until the dog stops pulling at the leash. As soon as you achieve this, give the dog the treat and praise it lavishly.
Lisa Collins is a freelance Poodle trainer who has spent more than ten years conducting workshops on easy training methods. Obedience training is a very important aspect of Poodle training, as these dogs tend to grow totally unruly when they grow into adults. Read the following article before you go for dog training books You may find you do not need one after all.

5 biggest mistakes you can make training your dog
by Dennis Fisher
5 biggest mistakes you can make training you dog.
By Dennis Fisher.
Many people have difficulty training their dogs, because they make basic mistakes. Dog training is not difficult. These are the biggest mistakes people make. Be aware of them. Avoid making them and you’ll find that you’ll have an obedient dog, anxious to please you, in a very short time.
(1) One of the biggest mistakes is lack of consistency in your behavior. Your dog must learn to trust you. It is very confusing for the dog if it is uncertain when it has done wrong.
There must be consistency in your rewards and reprimands. If the dog is reprimanded for something it has done wrong, you must not allow it to get away with the action one day and then reprimand harshly the next day
(2) Lack of communication. The dog must be quite sure why it has been reprimanded – and of course why it is being rewarded. Do not take it for granted that the dog understands what it has been told.
If you have any doubt that the dog does not fully understand the way you want it to act, repeat the lesson over and over again.
A dog, in many ways, is like a two year old child. Be patient in your training. Don’t assume the dog understands what you want it to do.
(3) Don't make the mistake of using the wrong tone of voice.
Use the correct tone of voice depending on the circumstances. When you reprimand dog adjust your tone depending on the severity of the disobedient action. If you are going to shout loudly and angrily for a minor offense what are you going to do when the dog does something more serious?
(4) Don’t make the mistake of starting training too late. Start basic obedience when it is still a pup. Use mild reprimands with a very young, but even at a very early age the pup must know what it can do and what it is not allowed to do. Gently but firmly should be the guideline.
(5) When the dog is shy and nervous - as young dogs often are - don't make the mistake of giving the dog the impression you are rewarding it for this behavior. Don't give too much reassurance by cuddling and petting the dog when it is nervous. Don't reprimand or punish it , but speak to it in a matter-of-fact, unconcerned tone of voice and try to distract it by letting it do something it enjoys doing.

Good Hunting Dogs to Keep
by Matthew Kepnes
Have you always dreamed about hunting in the wild but you can't do so because you don't have a hunting dog as a companion? This shouldn't mean that you should give up on hunting. It's better to focus your energies in finding a good hunting dog. Hunting dogs usually locate prey or collect it after it has been shot down. They can also terrify other animals when they are used in a group, especially when they are used to hunt down foxes.Finding the ideal hunting dog requires a fine combination of patience and skill. First, you need to decide what type of hunting dog you are interested in. If you'll spend your time hunting birds, then pick out a hunting dog accordingly.Hunting dogs are available in various training levels. There are some hunting dogs that have severe lack of training. Also there are many available young hunting dogs with little amount of training. Of course, there are hunting dogs that have been given the complete training by their trainers. If you don't want to waste your time or effort, pick out highly trained dogs. For example, if you are interested in hunting for a particular type of bird, choose the best hunting dog for the job. You have to get a hunting dog that has been trained to look for the type of bird you plan to hunt. Choose a hunting dog which has been bred and trained in hunting activities at the regional and national championship level. It will be easy to spot the difference when you buy such a hunting dog for your hunting activities. You also have the option of buying a small hunting puppy and training it yourself. This is only going to work well if you love training dogs and have the right experience. You'll need to have all the qualities which are required of a hunting dog trainer. It can be easy to train a hunting dog if you are passionate about training one. Follow all the guidelines that every dog trainer uses while training a hunting dog.Look out for the following two things which should stand out in every hunting dog - a very good nose for sniffing out any kind of prey, and the ability to not be scared by the sound of a fired gun. It's time to go over the dog breeds that make good hunting dogs. Retrievers can be seen as very suited to hunting birds. They are also useful when you need a hunting dog for retrieving the prey after it has been shot down. Hounds and Bloodhounds are very good at tracking the prey. Their noses are sensitive and they remain focused even if they are given the task of tracking multiple preys. They do fabulously well when they are sent down to track other animals like foxes, deer and bears. Labrador retrievers are able to move across water and retrieve a duck when it has been shot. On the other hand Spaniels are good pointers. They are experts in leading you towards the place where birds are present. Now that you are aware of all the points that comes with picking a good hunting dog, don't hesitate to get one for yourself.

What to Think About When Getting a Dog
by Victoria Cochrane
A dog will prove to be a loyal and entertaining companion but you must be prepared to take full responsibility for their health and wellbeing. If you haven’t had a dog before then it’s hard to be aware of all the factors you need to consider. First and foremost, the size of your home and garden will dictate the size of your chosen pet. It goes without saying that a small flat without a garden is not a sensible option for a large dog. The energy levels of your chosen pet are also important and you should think about what size of dog you are physically able to handle. Age is another key factor, and having a think about whether you want a puppy or an older dog will help narrow your search down a bit. Puppies require training so make sure you have enough time to dedicate to this. While a younger dog may be easier to train, you will find that most dogs of all ages are very adaptable. In fact, older dogs tend to be calmer and require less exercise, which can be more suitable for some people’s lifestyles. When it comes to temperament, consider your home and way of living; if you have lots of frequent visitors then it may be better to have a more sociable dog who won’t mind different people being around. If you have children in the home or visiting your home then this is a crucial contemplation. Some dogs may be wary of toddlers and different dogs will have different tolerance levels to things that children are likely to do; therefore, if you have loud, boisterous children you will need a dog that can tolerate this. If you already have a pet and are looking for another then make sure that all of your pets will be able to live in harmony. Try to match the temperament of different dog breeds to the other pets in your household. Once you have worked out what type or breed of dog you want then make plans for the more practical side of things and be prepared for their arrival. For example, consider your average daily schedule and factor in when you will take your dog for a walk or when feeding time will take place. Invest in good quality dog foods and make sure you keep your pooch healthy and happy. Some people opt to have their pets fitted with microchips so they are more likely to be reunited if the pet goes astray. There are other forms of pet identification and it makes sense to make sure your dog can be identified and returned home safe and sound if they do go missing. Dog pet insurance is another essential safeguard that will help to keep your pet in tip-top condition and could save you a pretty penny if veterinary attention is needed. Of course, there is much to take into consideration if you are thinking of getting a dog, but it pays to understand the essentials before making your final decision.
